Marvellous and unique Buki-village
Beneath the pale blue sky,
a golden city’s placed,
With gates as clear as crystal glass
and shining star ablaze.
A garden blossoms there,
with flowers far and wide,
And fascinating animals
are wandering inside.
This amazing song of Russian rock band "Aquarium" came to my mind when I was going to write about Buki-village (the lyrics translation must be by Richard Pevear).
The village is located in Skvyra district of Kyiv region, far from the noisy arterial roads. And you may wonder: what to wait from out-of-the-way place? But when you approach to Buki, suddenly an inimitable in its beauty temple complex arises in front of you followed by splendid park with fountains, sculptures and even with the little private zoo.
The story of present-day Buki started in 2001 when local businessman and Maecenas Ivan Suslov opened here the orphanage "Child Development Centre '7'". Later a small hydropower station was built on local river cleared from rubbish. Then the construction of church and park complexes started.
The main church of St. Eugene together with two chapels of St. Alexander and St. Nikolas and the magnificent bell tower of St. Daniel create the luxurious combination.
The author of the project architect Yuri Babich received for it the State Architectural Prize in 2007. National Bank of Ukraine issued a commemorative silver coin in honor of the temple complex.
Moreover, the gorgeous granite fountain from Kyiv's Maidan Nezalezhnosti (the Independence Square) now adorns Buki-village!
So you can believe me it's a great place. But much better would be to see it personally.
The photos from Buki are incredible.
Besides it will take you about two hours to get there from Kyiv (the distance is 110 – 130 km, depends on itinerary chosen). And at last you can visit one of the most beautiful botanical gardens Alexandria on your way to Buki.
Amazing places are quite near!
