In one of the oldest historic districts of Old Tbilisi - Avlabari in 2009 has a new attraction - the Presidential Palace. Avlabari Palace is the official residence of the President of Georgia. Avlabari residence was built at the initiative of the President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili. On the creation of the presidential Palace in Avlabari worked the best team of architects of Georgia, headed by George Batiashvili, which was developed basic design of the building. According to the project Batiashvili building the Avlabari residence of the President of Georgia is largely resembled the building of the German Reichstag. Final work on the Avlabari Palace was conducted by the Italian architect and designer Michele De Lucchi. The same architect is also the author of the project one of the Tbilisi attractions - Peace Bridge.
The Avlabari residence is located on the banks of the Kura River(Georgian name of this reservoir - Mtkvari). Building Avlabar Palace is decorated with a large dome, which has elements of Greco-Roman style and the Italian Renaissance. The building itself is built in the classical style.
The Avlabari residence of the President of Georgiawas transferred to the Ministry of education and soon it will be altered to the University center, which is likely to have technical direction, because it is by far the most priority in Georgia.
